Freedom
By: Taylor Ault Freedom, not only immeasurable but beyond imagination for losing freedom that would be a death sentence in itself For freedom is our right And we are fortunate Yet we do not realize Freedom means everything So take part in your right And live, Live free El Mar
Cheyenne Perry Walking by the water Toes beneath the coarse sand The waves crashing against the shore The sun shining on the water Below the surface is more than there seems Throughout the sea are hopes and dreams Between each wave is a spark of life Among the coral are baby fish Underneath the sand are clams Across the water are flying fish Behind the seaweed are small crustaceans In spite of dangers there is true beauty There have been fears formed from beyond the sea Careers formed among the sea Upon the sea are magnificent creatures and life. |
Rhyme or Reason
By: Ashley Krueger In my mind there is no cabinet, To file all my thoughts, And I suppose that if there would be one, It would be rusted shut. My thoughts pop up like daises, Then fade like setting suns, And it would be a wonder, If I remembered even one. There is no rhyme or reason, To much of what I say, Most everything is random, But that’ll have to be okay. |
The Rock
Lyndsey Saltz
No one notices me.
Cars drive by
But none of them stop
And stare at me
They'll drive across the state
To look at mighty mountains towering above all
No one calls me anything
Except
Dumb old rock
Nothing majestic like
Kilimanjaro, and Rushmore.
Who would think
To name a rock?
A poor, simple rock at the side of the road
Destined for nothing
A small, brown rock
Not worth adding to your collection
Why pick up something like me?
I am not unusual
Just ordinary
Splashed with mud
Spattered by rain
Kicked by a moody teen's feet
Take me
Name me
Turn me into clay pottery and bake me
Anything but this pointless existence!
I want out!
But I have no legs
And cannot move
Lost among countless others
I dream of rocketing to the moon
Or exploring submerged pirate ships
I used to be
Something.
Part of a once-mighty volcano
Now nothing.
I am but a
Plain, meaningless
Rock.
